People chose to stay with miserable jobs with bosses who doesn’t give a sh*t about them to earn 87,000 dollars rather than working for something they’re truly passionate about with 63,500 dollars of salary.
Earlier today I was chatting with one of my friend from college. After graduation from school. She’s has been working in an engineering consulting company for 5 years. She was saying how the soul-sucking environment has affected her.
“I realized that I became the person I didn’t want to be when I first started my career just because of higher salary and better title at work.” She said.
And her eyes started to filled with tears.
She continued to say,
… I changed myself from hard-working enthusiast to working less on real projects and spending more time flattering bosses and colleagues.
… I’m not the person of integrity anymore. I followed the herd of sheeps in this company without thinking what is the right way to do.
… I became snobbish and not treating those minorities kindly unconsciously.
And her tears started to fall down like waterfall.
I’ve never seen her being so desperate before. Shes been the type of girl who’ll stand up again after falling down. Laughing at herself while patting off the dust on her body and then start moving on to the next challenge.
Then it dawned me on how important it is to live the life you want, work on the things that make you truly happy and feel fulfilled with your life.
You see, the majority society has been telling us, follow a certain path and we’ll be “successful”. Be the 9-5er, work for a big corporate, and get awesome salary with glowing title.
Which often time becomes the beginning point that we start to loss ourselves.
We changed because the desire to fit in at work. We comprised because that’s what boss told you to do. We said yes when we wanted to say no because that got us more income and possibility to get promoted.
Imagine just for a moment that you have stable passive income and don’t need to worry about finding the next check. How would you live your life?
Would you stay with your 9-5?
I’m grateful that my friend being so authentic and vulnerable with me. Allowing me the chance to live my purpose— to kindly support and empower others to do the work to become aware of who they truly are so that they can build and achieve a happy and fulfilled life with no regrets.
She asked for my online business information and went back. She told me she’s determined to change her life and get her control of her life back.
