Have you ever had this thought in mind?…You’ve been following what society told you to. When you were still a little kid, your parents taught you to do this, follow that. If you don’t do this, and you will….
Then you went to school, teachers taught you to finish this, obey that. If you don’t do this, and you will…
So you followed the orders, obeyed the rules, and made a great progress. Becoming an adult, you started to wonder if what you’ve been doing with your life is what you really love to do. Is this life you’ve been living till now what you want, or it’s somebody else life that you’ve been living?
Have you thought about since when are we only “successful” when we got good job, earn awesome income, get married and have kids and you’ll live happy after?
If you don’t get good grades in school, you’re done with your life. If you don’t have a nice 9-5 job, you’re not successful. If you don’t have kids, you’re crazy.
I don’t know about you but I’ve spent a lot of time living in Asia, I grew up and educated in this culture where either you become doctor, lawyer, engineer, or you’re a failure. For women, stay at home and take care of family.
I grew up being taught to do what “girls” need to do. Behave well, find mr. right, get married and have kids. Stay home taking care of kids and parents from both side(myself and my husband’s). And then my life will be completed.
Which I’m totally standing on the opposite side.
I guess god really wants to test my parents limits…because basically I did everything that a girl should not be doing. When I told my family about I want to focus on my business, don’t want to get married and have babies too soon, they looked at me with their eyes peeled, mouth opened, and said I was crazy.
You know what, I am happy. And I’m so glad that I made decision back then to find out my true self and bring the best out of me.
I have to say, it is hard to find out who you really are at the beginning, especially if you’re born in an environment that has strict rules or orders to follow.
Here’s the very tip I want to share with you. A practical tip that you can apply immediately if you desire to get started. A helpful tip that I wish somebody taught me back then so that I didn’t have to struggle.
Ask yourself, what advice would you tell your younger self?
Because for me, answering the question “what’s your passion?”, ” What are you passionate to do?” etc. is harder than everything else. I could spend whole day and came up with no answer.
However, with this question, tons of voices popped up in my mind. Most of the time is something that I didn’t do. and that’s something that created me regrets. Which is a strong indication leading me to go where I should be going. I’m still using this tip every time I reached another small milestone in life. That really keeps me moving forward(failures included). And that makes me feeling fulfilled and happy with life.
Trust yourself along the process. If you like keep this in mind, You’re not lost in life, you’re just early in the process.
Wish you best of luck and looking forward to hearing any thoughts from you!
p.s. If you want to speed up the process, here are some recommended books that can help you progress dramatically along the process of you applying the tip :(1)《Start with why》–Simon Sinek (2)《StrengthsFinder 2.0》—Tom Rath
